This plan follows the Cabinet Office Carbon Reduction Plan template published with PPN 06/21 (now PPN 006). It reports Scope 1, Scope 2 and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e).
Commitment to achieving Net Zero
The Powerful Group Limited is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050 at the latest.
Baseline emissions footprint
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases produced in the past, before any reduction strategies were introduced. They are the reference point against which emissions reduction is measured.
Baseline year: 31 March 2025 to 30 March 2026 (our financial year)
Additional details relating to the baseline emissions calculations: We are a micro business with a remote-first team. We do not own, lease or pay fuel for any vehicles, and we do not run our own premises: 124 City Road is our registered address only, and we have no other office. We burn no gas, oil or other fuel at premises we control, so our Scope 1 emissions are zero. We buy no electricity for premises, so our Scope 2 emissions are zero; electricity and heating used by our team when working from home are reported in Scope 3 under employee commuting (including homeworking), in line with the PPN 06/21 reporting standard.
Emissions were calculated using the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard, with the following sources and assumptions:
- Employee commuting, including homeworking: nobody commutes to a workplace. Six people work on the business from home, about 35 hours a week each (treated as full time). We have no PAYE employees; our long-term support staff are subcontracted through their own companies or are self-employed. We counted 46.4 weeks a year each (52 weeks less 5.6 weeks’ leave, the statutory minimum): 9,744 FTE working hours. We applied the UK Government homeworking factor (office equipment plus heating) of 0.33378 kgCO2e per FTE working hour, from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s Greenhouse gas reporting: conversion factors 2025 (condensed set, Homeworking tab). Result: 3.25 tCO2e.
- Business travel: about £2,000 was spent on business travel in the year, with no split by mode. This figure is an estimate based on spend. We applied the Defra spend-based emissions multiplier for SIC section H, Transport and storage, of 1.347575 kgCO2e per £ (2023, the latest year published, excluding VAT), from Defra’s UK and England’s carbon footprint to 2023: spend-based emissions multipliers, 1997 to 2023 (published 30 June 2026). The £2,000 was treated as net of VAT and was not deflated to 2023 prices, which errs on the high side. Result: 2.70 tCO2e. From the next reporting year we will record travel by mode and distance, so we can use activity-based factors.
- Upstream and downstream transportation and distribution, and waste generated in operations: none. We paid for no couriers, shipping or freight, and we generate no waste at premises we control.
Media, print, out-of-home and travel delivered for clients through our extended team (such as our specialist media partners and tour operators) are not within the five mandatory Scope 3 categories and are excluded.
Baseline year emissions:
| Emissions | Total (tCO2e) |
|---|---|
| Scope 1 | 0.00 |
| Scope 2 (location-based) | 0.00 |
| Scope 3 (included sources: upstream transportation and distribution 0.00; waste generated in operations 0.00; business travel 2.70; employee commuting, including homeworking, 3.25; downstream transportation and distribution 0.00) | 5.95 |
| Total emissions | 5.95 |
Current emissions reporting
Reporting year: 31 March 2025 to 30 March 2026, the same as the baseline year (this is our first Carbon Reduction Plan).
| Emissions | Total (tCO2e) |
|---|---|
| Scope 1 | 0.00 |
| Scope 2 (location-based) | 0.00 |
| Scope 3 (included sources as above) | 5.95 |
| Total emissions | 5.95 |
Emissions reduction targets
To continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.
We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 3.15 tCO2e by the year ending 30 March 2031, a reduction of 47% against the baseline.
| Year | Projected total emissions (tCO2e) |
|---|---|
| Baseline 2025/26 (year ending 30 March 2026) | 5.95 |
| 2026/27 | 5.33 |
| 2027/28 | 4.70 |
| 2028/29 | 4.08 |
| 2029/30 | 3.45 |
| 2030/31 | 3.15 |
| 2050 | Net Zero |
Our interim target is a 42% reduction in total emissions (Scope 1, 2 and 3) against the 2025/26 baseline by the year ending 30 March 2030. This is in line with the Science Based Targets initiative’s near-term benchmark for a 1.5°C pathway and puts us on track for Net Zero by 2050. Our footprint is homeworking (about 55%) and business travel (about 45%). Much of the cut will come from our travel hierarchy (online first, then rail, flying only where unavoidable) and from measuring travel by mode instead of by spend. Homeworking emissions will fall as the UK electricity grid and home heating decarbonise. We will report progress every year and update this plan.
Carbon reduction projects
Completed carbon reduction initiatives
The following environmental management measures are in place and will continue during the performance of contracts:
- Remote-first working. Our team works remotely and client meetings, workshops and reviews take place online by default, which avoids most commuting and business travel.
- No company vehicles and no dedicated office. We own or lease no vehicles and run no premises; our City Road address is a registered address only.
- Digital-first delivery. We recommend digital channels over print where they serve the audience equally well.
In the future we hope to implement further measures such as:
- choosing a renewable-electricity tariff for any premises we use, and encouraging home workers to do the same;
- choosing web hosting and cloud providers that power their data centres with renewable electricity;
- a travel hierarchy: online first, then rail or public transport, with air travel only where unavoidable;
- extending the life of IT equipment and recycling e-waste through approved schemes;
- asking our extended team for recycled or FSC/PEFC-certified materials and accurate print runs, and for their own carbon reduction plans;
- measuring and reporting our emissions every year and updating this plan.
